GIMP 2.6 is born with a better interface but thought this is not all functions and tools use the engine GEGL which will be part of GIMP 3.0!

Another interesting point is the GIMP uses Webkit, the HTML rendering engine used and developed by Apple for its Safari browser, but also used by Google Chrome.
